Matthew McConaughey has been in a string of box office winners, and this movie had a worldwide gross of $97,016,538 continuing his box office winning ways. Jennifer Garner hasn’t done too bad with her recent releases either. In this movie, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past Connor Mead (McConaughey) is learning a lesson about the way he treats the women in his life. While Connor is on his personal voyage it becomes clear to him how he treats women and his family. He learns that he can love and that he has really only loved one woman, Jenny Perotti (Garner). The setting for the entire movie was at Connor’s brothers wedding. His brother Paul (Breckin Meyer) is getting married and Connor has nothing good to say about marriage. Connor has learned everything about how to treat women and never to marry from his Uncle Wayne played by Michael Douglas. During the wedding weekend Connor is visited by three ghosts, similar to A Christmas Carol . Each of the ghosts showed him his past, present and future. The lead ghost who introduces each of the subsequent ghost was his Uncle Wayne, who wants Connor not to make the same mistakes in life he did. Through-out the movie, Connor does really dumb things which messes up the wedding plans and eventually the wedding itself. Connor with his new enlightenment, realizes he must correct everything in order to repair his brothers wedding weekend and his realationship with Jenny.

With the outcome of the Ghosts of Girlfriends Past being predictable, the story itself was well put together. When the movie started, I thought that this would be common chick flick. However, the movie was put together with good comedy as well as the romantic angle, making this movie fun for me as well as my wife. I am recommending you see Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. I think you will enjoy it, I know I did.

In DISASTER MOVIE, the filmmaking team behind the hits Date Movie, Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans this time puts its unique, inimitable stamp on one of the biggest and most bloated movie genres of all time – the disaster film.

DISASTER MOVIE follows the comic misadventures of a group of ridiculously attractive twenty-somethings during one fateful night as they try to make their way to safety while every known natural disaster and catastrophic event – asteroids, twisters, earthquakes, the works – hits the city and their path as they try to solve a series of mysteries to end the rampant destruction.

Taking aim at everything and everyone, from “Indiana Jones” and “Iron Man” to Amy Winehouse and High School Musical, DISASTER MOVIE lampoons the blockbuster movie, pop culture icons and public figures along the way as Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer satirize everything as only they can.

Lionsgate and Grosvenor Park present a 3 in the Box Production DISASTER MOVIE starring the dynamic cast of Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo, Gary “G-Thang” Johnson, Nicole Parker, Crista Flanagan, Kim Kardashian, Ike Barinholtz, with Carmen Electra and Tony Cox. The film is written, directed and produced by Friedberg and Seltzer and produced by Peter Safran.

OWN IT ON DVD AND BLU-RAY™ HI-DEF – JANUARY 20, 2009
FROM UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOME ENTERTAINMENT

The Express follows the inspirational life of college football hero Ernie Davis (Rob Brown), the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Following his draft by the NFL, tragedy struck the star athlete and he was never able to take the professional field. But his tale would forever change the face of professional ports. Raised in poverty in Pennsylvania coal-mining country, Davis overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles to become an unstoppable running back for the Syracuse Orangemen. Under the guidance of coach Ben Schwartzwalder (Dennis Quaid)—a hard-nosed surrogate father with an obsession for winning a national championship—Davis would develop from an impressive high-school athlete into a legend. While everyone agreed Ernie Davis was a miracle player, few thought this quiet young man would become an icon or the burgeoning civil rights movement dividing America in the early 1960s. Refusing to play by the unspoken racist rules of the day, Davis broke through one barrier after another to alter the way fans looked at men of his color. Though leukemia struck the player a terrible blow in the prime of his life, his spirit soared when most would crumble. Forcing his bull-headed coach to re-examine a life lived in color-based privilege, Davis would join the ranks of black pioneers who inspired a movement that smashed barriers on and off the playing field.

Ben Stiller’s fifth directorial role and he has a winner. This is in my opinion his best work since directing Reality Bites back in 1994. My hopes for Tropic Thunder were high as was the hype when the movie was released. After I finished watching I could not be happier with all of the surprises I received from it. The casting had been top notch. While Ben Stiller, Jack Black held their own, actors Robert Downy Jr. and Tom Cruise were stealing the show along with a notable performance by Mathew McConaughey. Then there were the less known actors, Brandon Jackson who played Alpa Chino and Jay Baruchel who played Kevin Sandusky each were great in their roles.

Continue on for more – including pictures and a trailer.

Movie Summary:

Stiller plays a struggling actor (Tugg Speedman) whose last movie series role as Scorcher started out great, then upon the latest installment Scorcher VI Global Meltdown was a complete bust (as was the previous five installments). The role Speedman plays is John "Four Leaf" Taybac, whose story is one of military heroism and honor. While filming the movie Speedman is taken captive by the heroin-producing gang called the Flaming Dragon. Once he is captive, they recognize him and make Speedman perform the only VHS movie they own called Simple Jack, over and over again. While the performances of Simple Jack are going on, the Flaming Dragon gang has contacted Speedmans people to ask for a ransom. This is where the antics of Tom Cruise playing Les Grossman the studio head, took over. Cruise was a surprise in this comedic role and did a very good job at it.

The supporting cast for Speedman in the Tropic Thunder movie was Kirk Lazarus played by Downey. In this role Lazarus is an Australian actor who is playing a black actor who undergoes a surgey to make him black for the role. Downey for me was the highlight of the cast. Another actor in the Tropic Thunder movie was Jeff "Fatty" Portnoy played by Jack Black. Portnoy was successful for his role in The Fatties part 1 and 2. Portnoy while trying to assist in the rescure of Speedman lets the others know of his heroin dependency. Another actor in the Tropic Thunder movie was Alpa Chino (pronounced Al Pachino) who is a rapper turned actor whose latest success were the drink called "Booty Sweat" and a candy bar called "Bust-A-Nut". Mathew McConaughey plays Speedman’s agent, whose name is Rick "Pecker" Peck. His name says it all about this character.

Overall I would recommend Tropic Thunder to all who are fans of the darker comedy genre.

What Happens in Vegas is a comedy waiting to happen. It takes an old premise (drunk strangers regretting their decision to get married in Las Vegas) and adds in a dilemma (a $3 million slot machine win) that could’ve been easily resolved. But then again, there would’ve been no movie if the unhappily wedded couple figured out that splitting the money in half and getting their marriage annulled would’ve been quick and effective. Cameron Diaz plays uptight clean-freak Joy, who has just been dumped by her fiance. Ashton Kutcher is Jack, a slacker furniture maker who has been fired–by his own dad. Each goes to Vegas to let off some steam. And while they have nothing in common (except being exceptionally good looking) they make out, get married, and fight over the money Jack wins with Joy’s quarter. Instead of letting the couple get divorced, a judge sentences the odd couple to half a year of marriage. What happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas, but extends into New York where Jack and Joy live. Both actors have fared well in comedies, especially Diaz in My Best Friend’s Wedding. And while Kutcher still has to live down Dude, Where’s My Car?, he showed a lot of comedic flair and charm in A Lot Like Love. But the two face an uphill battle here with inane dialogue and a premise that not only is unbelievable, but unlikeable. The two are so incompatible (and immature) they can’t even control bathroom time and, in Jack’s case, his bladder. –Jae-Ha Kim
