Smother opens September 26th, 2008 (limited)

Since getting his start on PUNK’D, Dax Shepard has had the privilege of starring opposite Hollywood’s loveliest ladies, from Jessica Simpson in EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH to Amy Poehler in BABY MAMA. SMOTHER continues that tradition, pairing the comic actor with Liv Tyler and Diane Keaton. In this comedy, Shepard stars as a down-on-his-luck therapist whose mother (Keaton) moves into his house with her five dogs and without any desire to leave.

Walking on Dead Fish opens September 19th, 2008 (limited)

Though New Orleans certainly got the worst of Hurricane Katrina, neighboring communities suffered as well. This documentary looks at La Place, a town located 15 miles outside the big city, where many refugees settled after the hurricane. In addition to issues of supply and shelter shortages, La Place also struggled to accommodate the newcomers in its school system, especially the young men who wanted to play football. This documentary chronicles integration of the new players with the original team, as each of the athletes clamors for equipment and playing time. Football great Terry Bradshaw serves as both the film’s narrator and one of its executive producers. WALKING ON DEAD FISH is the basis for the narrative film HURRICANE SEASON.

Choke opens September 26th, 2008 (wide)

Though FIGHT CLUB has reached cult status, CHOKE is surprisingly only the second of writer Chuck Palahniuk’s novels to make it to the screen. This adaptation from actor-writer-director Clark Gregg stars Sam Rockwell as a man with a sex addiction. Anjelica Huston, Brad William Henke, and Kelly Macdonald costar in this darkly comic film that charmed Sundance audiences.

Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela opens

In this film that walks the line between fiction and reality, a beautiful transsexual prostitute named Raquela (Raquela Rios) dreams of a better life than the one she currently lives in the Philippines.
