Beautiful Losers opens August 8th, 2008 (limited)

This documentary delves into the world of a group of edgy New York artists who have had a massive impact on the culture at large. Starting in the 1990s, this group found its origins on the fringe–in skateboarding, graffiti, punk, and hip hop–and turned their creativity to various kinds of art, including painting and filmmaking. BEAUTIFUL LOSERS highlights the lives and work of 11 artists, including Mike Mills and Harmony Korine.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona opens August 15th, 2008 (limited)

After conquering New York and London, Woody Allen moves on to the Spanish city of the title for this romantic comedy. Allen favorite Scarlett Johansson, who appeared in the director’s MATCH POINT and SCOOP, stars along with a pair of Spanish actors: Oscan nominee Penelope Cruz and Oscar winner Javier Bardem. In VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA, two Americans (Johannsson and STARTER FOR TEN’s Rebecca Hall) become involved with a pair of ex-lovers when they visit Barcelona.

Beer for My Horses opens August 8th, 2008 (limited)

Country music star Toby Keith earns credit as screenwriter, producer, and star in this comedy based on his hit song with Willie Nelson. Keith plays a deputy who hits the road with his best friend (RODNEY’s Rodney Carrington, who also cowrote the script) to rescue one of the man’s girlfriends from a drug lord’s clutches. The pair may be on a mission, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a rip-roarin’ good time along the way. In BEER FOR MY HORSES, Keith is joined by music legends Nelson and Ted Nugent, as well as Hollywood actors Claire Forlani and Tom Skerritt.

What We Do is Secret opens August 8th, 2008 (limited)

In this biopic, fans can watch the meteoric rise–and equally epic fall–of Darby Crash, the lead singer of punk band the Germs. In 1970s Los Angeles, Darby (Shane West) creates the Germs, even though his fellow band members have little experience with their instruments. Joined by Pat Smear (Rick Gonzales), Lorna Doom (Bijou Phillips), and Don Bolles (Noah Segan), Darby rules the punk world, but drugs soon dethrone him and the band, and Darby resorts to suicide. WHAT WE DO IS SECRET enlists Darby’s band mate Smear as its executive music producer.
