Longshots opens August 22nd. 2008 (wide)

Curtis Plummer — a down-on-his-luck former high school football star — turns his niece, Jasmine, into the quarterback of the local team, the Minden Browns, and gets his stride back when he becomes the team coach. With Curtis as their new leader and their pigtail-wearing star player, this team of misfits wins its way to the Pop Warner Super Bowl and the small city of Minden, Illinois, is ignited with team spirit, town pride and the glory it once knew.

I Served the King of England opens August 22nd, 2008 (limited)

Director JirĂ­ Menzel and novelist Bohumil Hrabal teamed up with Oscar-winning results for the classic CLOSELY WATCHED TRAINS, and this Czech film repeats their pairing. I SERVED THE KING OF ENGLAND follows Jan Dite through his life which, as a man living in 1930s Czechoslovakia, has more than its share of highs and lows.

Fly Me to the Moon 3-D opens August 15th, 2008 (wide)

This 3D adventure puts an animated twist on the historic Apollo 11 mission of 1969. What if Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins weren’t alone on their trip to the moon? In FLY ME TO THE MOON, three young flies–Nat, IQ, and Scooter–accompany the astronauts, and the tiny trio may turn out to be pint-sized heroes when the mission goes awry. Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry, Kelly Ripa, and Nicollette Sheridan all provide voices for the film, and real-life astronaut Aldrin makes an appearance as well.

Red opens August 8th, 2008 (limited)

Though its pedigree might suggest a horror film–it arrives with MAY’s Lucky McKee as one of its directors and THE GRUDGE writer Stephen Susco behind the script–RED is more of a thriller than a fright fest. The always watchable Brian Cox (L.I.E.) stars as Avery Allan Ludlow, a veteran of the Korean War who lives a lonely life in a small town. When a group of boys shoots his only friend–a 14-year-old dog named Red–Avery struggles to find retribution for their crime and his loss. Based on a novel by Jack Ketchum, RED also stars Tom Sizemore, Robert Englund, and Amanda Plummer.
